We’re delighted to welcome our new Production Manager, Patrick Speck, whose journey into engineering is anything but conventional—combining hands-on experience, curiosity, and a drive to continually improve.

Starting out in college, he explored a variety of paths—from electrical installation to electronics—before discovering a passion for understanding how things work through sports science. But with ambitions to join a trade in the military, his route took an unexpected turn when recruitment slowed. Instead, he stepped into the fast-paced world of professional kitchens, working full time as a chef.

While the kitchen honed his discipline and work ethic, he knew it wasn’t his long-term destination. Ready for a new challenge, Patrick sought advice from a trusted contact who introduced him to the world of engineering apprenticeships. That moment proved pivotal.

Patrick began an advanced apprenticeship as a Production Engineer in sheet metal fabrication, where he studied Manufacturing Systems Operations. It was here that everything clicked. Alongside hands-on fabrication work, he developed a keen interest in improving processes—taking on responsibilities such as production scheduling and coordinating complex fabrication orders. Patrick's practical mindset meant he was always looking for ways to refine designs and enhance efficiency, not just on paper but on the shop floor.

From there, his career expanded into CNC machining, where he moved into a more commercial role, estimating new products and quoting for tooling used in the manufacture of fasteners like screws and bolts. This blend of technical understanding and commercial awareness became a key strength.

Patrick later joined Makita as a Product Engineer, taking responsibility for the smooth running of selected product lines, supporting new model introductions, and overseeing component approvals. A significant part of his role involved managing the plastics commodity—working closely with suppliers, attending tool trials, and solving complex challenges related to plastic components.

Building on this experience, he progressed into production and material planning within the plastics sector, where his leadership skills quickly came to the forefront. In a short space of time, he advanced through roles including Production Manager, Co-Site Lead, and ultimately Site Leader at Goodfish Ltd.

Now, Patrick brings that wealth of experience, adaptability, and hands-on leadership to our team.

A Background Built on Movement and Adaptability

Coming from a military family, with his father serving in the RAF, Patrick has lived across the UK—from West Yorkshire to the Midlands—developing resilience and adaptability along the way. These qualities have become defining traits throughout his career.

    Life Beyond the Factory

Outside of work, he enjoys making the most of the outdoors with countryside and hill walks, as well as staying active through Brazil Jiu-Jitsu (under the instruction of his brother). A keen cook—perhaps unsurprisingly—he also enjoys racket sports, even if he admits he’s a little out of practice!

    Fun Facts

He has double-rooted teeth, thrives on new experiences, prefers winter over summer, and has a naturally competitive streak—traits that no doubt contribute to his drive for continuous improvement.

We’re excited to have Patrick on board and look forward to the impact his experience and energy will bring to our operations.
